How do I use the Upside app to save money?

The Upside app — formerly known as GetUpside — helps users earn cash back at traditional brick-and-mortar establishments, including gas stations, convenience stores, supermarkets, and restaurants. Making money with the app is as simple as following three easy steps:

1. Claim your offer
2. Pay as usual
3. Check in or scan receipts

After you’ve downloaded the app, you can find cash back offers in your area. The offers will show up on a map — you may see $.15 off at your local Shell station, for example, or 13% off at the Applebee’s down the street. Tap one of these offers to claim it.

Once you’ve claimed an offer, just pay as usual with your credit or debit card. Make sure to tap the ‘check in’ button once you’ve paid. Upside will match your transaction against data from the business and pay your reward. If the ‘check in’ button is not available, you can snap a picture of your receipt and upload it in the Get Upside app.

First, find an offer for gas, groceries, or food in the app. Make sure to tap the Claim button to start the process.
Pay as usual. After your transaction, you’ll be asked to ‘Check In’ or ‘Upload Receipt’ — with the former, Upside will automatically match your transaction to the vendor’s receipts. With the latter, they’ll verify your receipt against reported sales.

A few days later, you’ll get your rewards! You can deposit your earnings directly into your bank account, transfer it to your Paypal, or redeem it for a gift card from one of dozens of merchants.
